Job summary

Are you an experienced pharmacy technician who has previous experience of working with electronic prescribing solutions within an acute hospital setting?

Would you like to play a key role in the configuration, maintenance, and development of the of the electronic prescribing and medicines administration (EPMA) and digital systems used within the Trust?

Do you want to be strategically involved in the implementation of a new integrated EPR solution for the Trust and medicines automation strategy, supporting the implementation of the Pharmacy / Medicines aspects?

Main duties of the job

o Support the delivery of the digital agenda within Pharmacy, leading on defined aspects.o Co-ordinate the departmental testing of upgrades and changes to EPMA and related digital systems where required.o Support colleagues in the Pharmacy Department and the wider multidisciplinary team as an expert user of digital systems such as EPMA. the Pharmacy stock control system and automation.o Lead the teaching and peer supervision of pharmacy staff in the use of digital systems and automation e.g. electronic drug cabinets and robotic dispensing systems.o Be responsible for supporting the normal daily running of the Pharmacy IT systems.o Support the Lead Pharmacist - EPMA & Digital in communicating departmental requests for digital development in the context of the wider UHP digital strategy.o Lead day-to-day EPMA system configuration.

About us

University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust (UHP) was the first UK site to deploy Better Meds as its EPMA solution. The system is currently rolled out across the Trust and used in most adult inpatient areas and is integrated with in-house portal and electronic discharge systems. Better Meds operates using open standards and dm+d / SNOMED natively. The post holder would have the opportunity to influence and inform the software development process alongside supporting the normal daily running of the Pharmacy IT systems.

The Trust is working towards the implementation of an integrated EPR solution. This postholder will be key to refine and maximise the current ePMA functionality and critical to enabling the Pharmacy/Medicines aspects of the new EPR.

UHP is the largest hospital on the Southwest Peninsula providing comprehensive secondary and tertiary care to a population of around 2,000,000 people who can access our specialist services including cardiothoracic surgery, kidney transplantation, neurosurgery, and the regional trauma Centre. Our specialist cancer treatments include bone marrow transplant, sarcoma surgery and hepatobiliary and pancreatic cancer surgery (not exhaustive). We work closely with our community partners in delivering comprehensive health and social care including general practice, care homes, mental health, neurological rehabilitation, and general medicine.
