Job summary

We have a gap in our team which we are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced person to fill. The People First programme is changing the way we work to improve the quality of care we offer, making our services safer, more effective, and more patient centred. It helps create better services by putting the best ideas of frontline staff into action, removing waste, and focussing on what our patients really want. The Quality Academy Improvement Team supports the delivery of the programme.

As an Improvement Practice Specialist Coach, you will be responsible for overseeing delivery of the People First Improvement Practice based on Lean principles and supporting our improvement led culture. The purpose is to provide expert advanced improvement practice including Lean tools and coaching to the teams across our system; deliver training to individuals and teams to support delivery of improvements. You will also be expected to lead on one of our key Productivity programmes across the trust

You will be working with an exciting team of coaches and improvers who learn together to help make care better and work more enjoyable.

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be working with members of the public, executives, senior managers, local leads and individuals to transform the system and services, to deliver our 5 year and one-year goals. This will be achieved through a range of strategic and operational service improvements.

The post holder will be responsible for weekly reporting of progress of governance, core delivery and support work ; for planning and facilitating weeklong improvement events known as Practice Events, coaching and training of staff during events; mentoring and coaching of Practice coaches. Training guidance and certification in this practice will be made available for the successful candidates.

In addition to this, the post holder will be expected to learn how to - teach 'measurement for improvement'; to construct and facilitate week long improvement events that address root cause; to acquire expert knowledge of improvement methodologies and coach others in practice; to teach elements of cell design - flow, pull, 6s, visual management and standard work; be competent to construct and coach A3 problem on a page; establish and maintain workplace improvement huddles; above all ensure all activities are aligned to 5 year and 1 year goals.
