Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity with starting bonuses of £10,000 for an Interventional Consultant Radiologist to join our tertiary specialist team at University Hospitals Plymouth. The post is necessary to meet the increasing demand for image guided therapy, to support the on-call requirements for the major trauma status of the Hospital, and to staff the expanding interventional radiology department. The posts will be based within Derriford Hospital, which is a major teaching hospital located on the outskirts of the city of Plymouth and is part of Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust.

The successful applicants will complement a team of 5 existing interventional radiologists to deliver a broad range of procedures. There is the opportunity to contribute to the development of subspecialist intervention in oncology, the provision of services to the Trauma Centre as well as vascular intervention. The department currently has 2 interventional rooms, and is the process of refurbishing these, and creating a new interventional suite. We will be building a designated interventional radiology department with 4 IR suites, ultrasound suite, and interventional CT, plus a designed interventional theatre as part of the 'Future Hospitals' project. This is due to complete in 2024.

Main duties of the job

The post is to assist and to share responsibility for provision of a comprehensive interventional radiology service in addition to the Diagnostic Service. All radiology consultants are actively involved in teaching for the Peninsula Medical School and Peninsula Radiology Training Program. The successful applicant will share an office and secretarial support with consultant colleagues. A networked PC will be provided with this post and there will be office access to a PACS reporting workstation. Development of competence with voice recognition software will be required.

The post holder will be required to comply with all Trust Policies notably in relation to job planning, appraisal and leave taking in line with Departmental and Trust objectives.

The post holder will be expected to share the on-call commitment equally with the existing consultants.

There are separate on-call rotas for General, Interventional Radiology and Neuroradiology.

The Service Line is delivering 7 day working and the job plan and timetable will reflect this ambition in common with existing consultants

The Service Line would support any research interests of the Consultant in conjunction with the Trust lead for R & D. All consultants are expected to actively participate in the department's audit and clinical governance program.

The successful candidate will be expected to share in the support of MDT meetings with consultant colleagues.
