Job summary

This is a very exciting opportunity to join the Radiotherapy Engineering Team at UHPNT.

The successful candidate will become a senior member of Radiotherapy Physics with a brief to assist in the development in the Radiotherapy Engineering service in collaboration with equipment suppliers. This will include performing preventative and corrective maintenance on the Radiotherapy and Radiosurgery linear accelerators; currently these comprise Varian iX, Truebeam and Novalis. In the next two years, they will be replaced with state-of-the-art linear accelerators.

We provide specialist radiotherapy to the people of Devon and Cornwall, including brain radiosurgery, whole body irradiation and complex treatments of difficult-to-treat sites.

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

Main duties of the job

Maintaining machine uptime by preventative and reactive maintenance. Our engineering team collaborated with high tech companies to ensure that we can continue to treat our patients safely and accurately. Working with a team of physicists and technologists to provide a high quality service and maximise the potential of our machines. Undertaking clinical trials, postgraduate training and research to ensure that we are delivering the best possible service.

Highly specialised training will be provided to the successful candidate. This post is nominally a 37.5 hour week although the nature of the work requires flexibility with some evenings and weekend work. The successful applicant will also be expected to take part in Quality control work on the linear accelerators

Applicants who are not qualified to this level may be considered for appointment at a lower grade initially and training will be given. Excellent fault finding skills and the enthusiasm to learn are essential.
