Job summary

The Deputy CGM is responsible for strategic, operational and performance management, service quality and planning, overseeing, and supporting people management practices, resource use and modernisation in the Care Group. This will require well- developed and extensive knowledge and experience across a diverse range of managerial and clinical areas - with a strong and credible operational skill set essential to support the Care Group to deliver a challenging operational agenda.

The Deputy CGM is a key member of the Care Group team and as such will participate in and contribute to the operational planning and performance management arrangements of the department, as well as acting as a role model for people leadership and staff engagement within the care group. There is particular emphasis on improving employee experience, patient care and experience and service standards, increasing efficiency, working closely with the ICP to manage the interface between primary, community and secondary care.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will lead the clinical service delivery of business as usual, business development and clinical transformation programmes.

The Deputy CGM is a key member of the Care Group team and as such will participate in and contribute to the corporate planning and performance management arrangements of the department, as well as acting as a role model for people leadership and staff engagement within the department. There is particular emphasis on improving employee experience, patient care and experience and service standards, increasing efficiency, working closely with the ICP to manage the interface between primary, community and secondary care.

The Deputy CGM will manage staff in the department in relation to the delivery of operational, financial, performance and activity targets. The post holder is expected to work with autonomy and establish ways of working within Trust and general health Policies. You will be responsible the direction for the clinical portfolios within your remit. Ensuring goals and standards are set for each portfolio.

  • Responsible for the departments pay and non-pay budget in the cluster and to support the care group. To Identify and implement cost improvements in order to deliver the Trusts financial objectives.

  • Promote positive industrial relations within the areas of responsibility and ensure appropriate contact is maintained with Trade Union Officials and through the development of departmental forums.

  • Support managers and team leaders (where needed) in carrying out management processes such as disciplinary, grievance/dispute, or performance and conduct cases as well as recruitment/selection responsibilities. The Deputy Care Group Manager must ensure that there is appropriate involvement from the in the management of professional performance issues.
  • Take a key role in understanding and responding to the culture of the department. Develop and deliver the departmental action plan to annual NHS Staff Survey and other staff surveys working with the Trusts Organisational Development Team

Service and Quality Improvements

  • Lead corporate governance and modernisation across the Department.
