This exciting role is central to driving the accuracy, quality, and efficiency of clinical coding within the Trust. As Deputy Clinical Coding Manager, you will lead, develop, and manage our Clinical Coding Services to meet high standards of data quality and timeliness. Working closely with the Clinical Coding Manager, you will champion strategic coding transformation and support key digital initiatives, including the transition to an electronic patient record (EPR) system.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for the leadership, operational management, development and delivery of a high quality clinical coding services, strategic coding transformation and associated projects throughout the Organisation.

The post holder will ensure the timely and accurate delivery of the clinical coding function within the Trust to support commissioning and data submission processes by ensuring the Trusts coding activity deadlines are routinely met and that staff within the department achieve the highest possible standards.

To play a proactive role in the Trusts move to the electronic patient record, ensuring that the impact on clinical coding is positive, enhancing accuracy and timeliness.

The post holder will raise awareness throughout the Trust of the importance of a high standard of data quality and accuracy of clinically coded data, National Tariff Payments System and HRGs.

Essential

  • Significant experience in managing/leading a clinical coding team
  • Highly developed specialist knowledge, underpinned by theory and experience in clinical coding; business intelligence; and performance
  • Management of internal and external clinical coding audits
  • Experience of providing advice to, and liaising with, managers/staff and all levels, including with Executive Directors and` senior clinicians
  • Experience of working successfully across functional boundaries
  • Ability to identify and implement best practice from other organisations
  • Experience of successfully managing central operational services in a complex organisation (including people and budgetary management)
  • Substantial experience of policy development (organisationally)
  • Extensive experience of PAS/hospital systems
  • Understands and is able to explain the triangulation of data from Clinical Coding through to financial, performance and efficiency indicators
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, health sector processes, policies and current strategies
  • National clinical coding standards and practices
  • National & local performance/quality standards
  • Anatomy and physiology
  • ICD10, OPCS4 and HRG4
  • Information Governance Toolkit standards

Qualifications

Essential

  • Qualified to masters level (or significant proven experience in clinical coding)
  • Accredited clinical coding qualification
  • Clinical coding audit qualification or TAP clinical coding qualification
  • Evidence of ongoing personal and professional development (study or alternative)
