Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Medical Equipment Management Department as Senior Assistant Healthcare Scientist - Medical Engineering

This will assist in the provision of reusable medical device management services, including:

  • Planned Maintenance & repair of a limited range of less-complex medical devices
  • Condemnation of medical devices
  • Contribute to the delivery of the Trust-wide Resuscitation/Sepsis Schemes
  • Complete the MEMD Induction and on-going Medical Device specific competency programme

This post will support our planned maintenance activities out on the wards and clinics across the Trust's main sites.

This role requires flexibility of alternative occasional weekend working to cover for colleagues who work to support Library device turnarounds

Main duties of the job

You must be enthusiastic and able to absorb a good level of knowledge and gain a broad experience in regards to maintenance of medical equipment.You will contribute to the Clinical/Technical services of MEMD including planned maintenance, supporting repair and acceptance and condemnation. You will require an appropriate Level 3 qualification

You will have the opportunity of progression of the appropriate MEMD competence profile and will need to attend manufacturers training courses for less-complex medical devices.

The Department provides a comprehensive medical equipment management service for the Trust. This includes Respiratory clinic-based servicing of community-deployed sleep therapy/CPAP devices

The successful applicant will work to the Department's Quality System, which is registered via the British Standards Institution to ISO 9001:2015.

Job responsibilities

Provide clinical technical services including acceptance testing, planned preventive maintenance (PPM), servicing, inspection and repair to a range of simpler medical devices , incorporating the following responsibilities:

  • Regularly, undertake planned maintenance general fault-finding, to diagnose problems on simpler medical devices.
  • Regularly, contribute to the condemnation of medical devices, ensuring their safe disposal.
  • Acceptance test medical equipment and devices where appropriate, covering loan and newly delivered medical devices.
  • Participate in the processing and refurbishing of the Resuscitation and Sepsis Schemes

In undertaking the above duties, the post holder is responsible for:

  • Ensuring the contamination safety status is established and devices are clean prior to maintenance
  • Checking that devices perform to manufacturers specificationCarrying out electrical and functional safety checks
  • Work carried out will comply with MEMD quality standards and guidelines
  • Keeping scientific and technical records of work performed, ensuring job status is known at all times
  • Liaising with manufacturers to obtain information
  • Requests for material using the MEMD purchasing procedure
