Job summary
We are recruiting for a Pathology I.T. Systems Support Officer who shares our C.A.R.E. values of Communicating and working together, Aspiring and improving, Respectful and caring and Efficient and safe.
This post is critical in the support, maintenance and development of the clinical systems and hardware required by the end user. You should have experience of working in an NHS I.T.-related support role. Ideally, you should have an understanding of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and other digital systems in use across the NHS. Previous experience in training users on digital applications is desirable.
You must be able towork under pressure and learn new systems and applications in a short time scale in order to support ongoing implementations in Pathology.
You must also have excellent communication and practical skills and the ability to offer a flexible, responsible and positive approach to working both alone and as a team member.
You will be a highly motivated individual with an investigative, inquisitive mind and attention to detail. You should be able to demonstrate good organisational skills as well as the ability to work systematically through problems.
Above all, you will be committed to your own development and show a willingness to learn new skills and develop your own knowledge.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will support the day-to-day administration of the LIMS and other information systems used within Pathology. The post holder will deputise for the Pathology I.T. Manager and will contribute to systems monitoring to ensure full functionality, adequate performance, downtime minimisation and therefore enabling Pathology to provide an accurate and timely service.
Work with Pathology I.T. Manager in the development and delivery of the laboratory information management system
Work with the Pathology I.T. Manager in the development and delivery of other associated Pathology software and information technology tools.
The post holder will contribute to the content, integrity, safe use, security and housekeeping of the LIMS and associated systems. Production of statistics/audit information, housekeeping for the LIMS and will contribute to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and all other documentation related to I.T. systems.

Clinical Chemistry/Haematology/Blood Transfusion
To provide a diagnostic and interpretative service to both hospital clinicians and General Practitioners; to provide safe cellular and plasma blood products to patients when required, and advice about their optimum usage. To provide a specialist service for the diagnosis and management of blood and metabolic disorders.
Microbiology
To provide a full interpretative and consultative service, including the provision of timely and accurate reports of microbiological investigations to requesting clinicians and General Practitioners.
Cellular Pathology
To provide a service relating to the histological and cytological investigations on tissue samples, fine needle aspiration samples and other bodily fluids, including routine histology, frozen section, andrology, immunocytochemistry, and systemic cytology, and other special investigations to hospital clinicians and General Practitioners.
To provide a high-quality hospital and public mortuary service.
