Job summary

Newark theatres offers a range of day case procedures across different specialties including Orthopaedics, General surgery, ENT, ophthalmology, Dermatology, breast and others. The successful candidate would be expected to work in all areas of our department from either collecting patients from the ward , working in theatres and/or working within the recovery area for our patients.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for someone to carry out assigned tasks, delivering and supporting direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of Registered Nurses/ODPs.The candidate will demonstrate a courteous and helpful approach to patients, relatives and visitors to the Ward/Department supporting other team members to create an environment that is motivating, stimulating and supportive, keeping clinical areas clean and tidy, to maintain a safe and pleasant environment and contribute to the control of infection in clinical work areas.Whilst under supervision, following appropriate training, perform observations including respirations, blood pressure, pulse, temperature and oxygen saturation and record results both clearly and accurately on nerve centre, or as appropriate. Report any abnormal findings to a registered nurse/ODP.You will maintain confidentiality of all patient information and maintain principles of Information Governance.

Job responsibilities

Adhere to the ward procedures for the correct use of equipment and assist in maintenance of equipment as directed. Be aware of and adhere to Trust policies and procedures as appropriate, as identified by the Department/ Ward Sister/ Charge Nurse and registered nurses. Safeguard yourself and others working within Trust policies when handling dangerous and hazardous materials. Monitor and replace used items of linen and laundry as necessary. Monitor and maintain stationery documentation in appropriate areas. Participate fully as a team member, sharing knowledge and supporting colleagues to promote a cohesive ward/department team and the achievement of team objectives. Escort patients to other areas for further investigation following appropriate assessment and completion of competency framework. Assist registered nurses/ ODP with link nurse duties where required. Remain up to date with all mandatory training To undertake any other duties which may be reasonably regarded as within the nature of the duties, responsibilities and grade of the post.

Assist in the monitoring of and restocking of supplies. Promoting effective and efficient use of resources. Carry out assigned clerical tasks as directed. Report untoward incidents, accidents and any other relevant information to the Nurse in Charge.
