Main duties of the job
As a valued member of our Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT), you will work under the expert guidance of the Lead Colorectal Clinical Nurse Specialist. Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing expert advice and unwavering support to patients referred to our triage service.
- Collaborating in the development and execution of patient pathways within the triage service, offering specialized nursing guidance to both colleagues and patients.
- Assisting the Trust in achieving compliance with Urgent Suspected Cancer (USC) and Referral to Treatment (RTT) waiting time targets.
- Contributing to the delivery of evidence-based clinical diagnostic protocols, including "straight to test (STT)."
- Utilizing advanced communication skills to guide and comfort patients throughout the diagnostic pathway, using advanced clinical assessment techniques to ensure all relevant clinical information is readily available to our multi-disciplinary team.
- Leveraging your specialized nursing knowledge to review and interpret clinical investigatory results, determining the next stage of the pathway, including discharge or referral to specialist services as necessary.
- Demonstrating a higher level of practice by providing expert nursing knowledge and expertise in the delivery of diagnostic pathways, with a focus on lower GI suspected cancer.

- 1st level Registered Nurse
- Significant relevant post registration experience in cancer/ surgical/ endoscopy nursing.
- Evidence of teaching experience, either formally or in informal settings.
- Evidence of recent continuous personal and professional development.
Desirable
- First level degree in related subject.
- Evidence of Masters Level learning or willing to work towards relevant Masters level studies.
- Colorectal disease (including cancer), endoscopy and/ or surgical nursing experience.
