The Department of Orthodontics at Kings College Hospital
The department is situated on the 1st floor of King's College Dental Hospital. It comprises 19 dental chairs in an open clinic and 1 fully equipped enclosed side surgery, for the delivery of dental care.
The Department of Orthodontics forms part of King's Dental Services, working in partnership with Dental Services at Guy's & St Thomas' and the Dental School of King's College London. The orthodontic department is situated over two sites, the Denmark Hill site at King's College Dental Hospital and Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup
The orthodontic service provision forms part of the Trust's Clinical Service in dentistry. In an average year, approximately 2,700 new patients are referred to the department and 15,000 patients attend the department, on an outpatient basis, for treatment. Currently, only those patients who warrant hospital orthodontic care
Multidisciplinary clinics include orthognathic, ortho-oral surgery- paediatric, ortho-restorative and Hypodontia clinics. Clinics for patients suffering from Obstructive Sleep Apnoea are carried out in liaison with the respiratory physicians.
Main duties of the job
To provide a high quality clinical orthodontic service for patients referred for treatment and care. This includes all aspects of appropriate and supervised treatment and relevant management duties for the proper functioning of the department. To carry out the full range of clinical dental treatments currently permitted under the General Dental Council regulations, working from direct supervision by a consultant or a written treatment plan / prescription from a Dentist or Specialist Dentist.
