Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Staff Nurse/ODP to join King's Day Surgery Theatres Scrub Team.
We are seeking a scrub practitioner with extensive experience across multiple surgical specialties, demonstrating proven competence in at least two to three core areas. These should include General Surgery (open and laparoscopic) and may also include Maxillofacial surgery, Ophthalmology, Urology, Orthopaedics, Gynaecology, and Vascular.
Due to service needs, the successful candidate will be required to take oversight of these specialties in the absence of the Team Leader to maintain service continuity. Substantial multi-specialty experience and leadership capability within the scrub role are therefore essential.
The successful candidate will scrub and circulate for both adult and paediatric cases, and will be expected to maintain and further develop advanced clinical skills.
Following confirmation of competence in ophthalmic procedures, the post holder will join the Ophthalmology On-Call Team (this will not be immediate and will follow appropriate training and assessment).
Applicants should be aware that the role includes working in termination of pregnancy lists.

As Scrub Team Leader, the postholder will be a key resource within the unit and Care Group, maintaining excellent scrub skills and consistently modelling best practice. A strong theatre presence is required to ensure safe, person-centred care.
Leadership duties include upholding Trust governance, promoting patient safety and dignity, and driving continuous quality improvement. The postholder will support colleagues, role model professionalism, and champion learning and accountability.
Managerial responsibilities include acting as Floor Coordinator in the absence of senior managers--carrying the unit bleep, resolving issues, escalating when needed, and maintaining clear communication.
Promoting positive team dynamics is essential.The candidate will support junior staff through supervision, mentorship, and contributing to development plans, building competence and confidence.
