Job summary
The Matron for Education will deliver strategic and operational leadership for nursing and midwifery education across all sites of King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. In partnership with Care Group leaders and senior colleagues, they will ensure each service provides a progressive, high quality learning environment that enables development at every grade.
The role oversees Continuing Professional Development Trust wide, ensuring equity, transparency and defined career pathways within specialist areas. Close working with Higher Education partners will maintain relevant and accessible provision.
With King's Academy, the Matron will develop a blended model combining on site delivery, Academy programmes and digital learning. They will collaborate with module leads, subject experts and university partners to design validated modules and innovative courses for a diverse workforce, strengthening local, national and international links.
Providing visible clinical leadership, the Matron will promote interprofessional learning across Care Groups, maintain professional registration and uphold high clinical and educational standards.
Operating autonomously, they will use advanced clinical education expertise to support Trust and sector programmes, evaluate impact, optimise resources and contribute to workforce development and retention.
Main duties of the job
- Lead the development and delivery of high quality education programmes across the Care Group, ensuring learning aligns with Trust priorities and responds to changing service requirements.
- Undertake and coordinate Training Needs Analyses, implementing agreed development plans in partnership with Heads of Nursing and key stakeholders.
- Manage the Continuing Professional Development budget, ensuring equitable access, robust governance and effective use of resources.
- Collaborate with King's Academy, Higher Education Institutions and the Learning and Organisational Development Team to expand validated modules, apprenticeships and specialist pathways.
- Act as Trust lead for the Professional Nurse Advocate programme, supporting Practice Development Nurses and Midwives to improve standards of care and professional development.
- Represent senior nursing leadership at internal and external forums, contributing to organisational strategy and partnership objectives.
- Provide visible clinical leadership, maintaining professional credibility and modelling high standards in practice.
- Lead, manage and develop the education team, ensuring performance, wellbeing, statutory compliance and effective succession planning.
