Job summary

King's College Hospital NHS Foundation NHS Trust is currently delivering an ambitious financial efficiency programme with the aim to achieve long-term financial sustainability.

The post holder will work as part of a dedicated MEMS team to provide and develop services across the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) and Orpington or Denmark Hill (DH) sites.

The Medical Equipment Management Service (MEMS) of the department provides a range of services to the Trust. These services include the care of medical electronic and associated devices, training of staff (Medical Equipment Training) to use medical devices and a loan service for medical devices (Equipment Library).

Main duties of the job

Education and Training Provide training on medical devices for Trust staff using a variety of methodologies (didactic training, workshops, e-learning etc). Ensure that records of training are maintained and report on compliance with medical equipment training across the Trust. Coordinate and monitor the medical equipment training provided by outside bodies (for example medical device manufacturing companies). Liaise with medical and nursing staff to develop training competencies and knowledge verification systems for relevant staff at all levels. Assist in the development of alternative or enhanced methods of training delivery via available media in collaboration with information technology experts. Visit relevant areas, audit and evaluate local training systems and advice and assist Ward/Department managers to improve or maintain staff training. Provide input as required to staff induction or ward study day programmes.

Administrative Responsibilities Supervise the interface between users of equipment in the Trust (and potentially other clients) and the servicing and repair function provided by MEMS/EBME. Monitor and develop operating procedures for the MEMS equipment reception function. Ensure that staff are adequately trained to provide an appropriate level of advice and assistance to users of the MEMS/MET/MEL service. Provide identified, medical device related consumables to clinical users. Manage, monitor and develop the performance of staff working in the medical equipment training (MET) and medical equipment library (MEL).

Governance / Quality Control

Ensure that all work is undertaken in accordance with the departmental quality system ISO EN 13485 and performing all the relevant activities as instructed by MEMS leadership. Act as quality control representative for the team.

Support the development of the MEMS service and quality system by responding to/and reporting problems and enhancing and developing procedures and undertaking IPIs in addition to making suggestions for improvements.

Communication

Following collections, deliveries or general liaison with clients, report any equipment related problems (training issues, damage etc.) to managers promptly.
