An exciting opportunity has been created within the South East London Breast Screening Programme, SELBSP. We are looking for an experienced Health Promotion Specialist to work with our multi-disciplinary team to improve the uptake of eligible women. As a commissioned service, SELBSP is one of the larger breast screening programmes in the country and is responsible for inviting and screening an eligible population of 250,000+ well women aged 50-70 years old) once every three years as part of the National Breast Screening Programme

The post holder will be the lead specialist within our service, required to develop and implement a strategic plan to promote the South East London Breast Screening Programme to the eligible breast screening population living in Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark geographic areas.

You will need to demonstrate previous experience with proven outcomes of increased uptake and participation in a service or project particularly aimed at a "hard-to-reach" demographic, addressing inequalities and engaging community based services.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will engage with local communities and key public health, NHS and wider community organisations to gain access to the eligible population engage with and work with community leaders to form solid communication channels between the programme and our clients. There will be a particular focus on the engagement of BAME clients, socio-economic deprivation and communities of lower uptake, including CORE20Plus5 population.

Working closely with the Programme Manager and Clinical Nurse Specialist Lead to continue and further develop our health promotion work programme of events within the South East London geographical area. Aligning with seasonal opportunities, current health promotion requirements and national focus weeks to increase impact and results. In addition, activities may possibly be undertaken outside of core working hours and the post holder will need to demonstrate a flexible approach

Given the South East London demographic, this covers a broad and diverse spectrum with additional emphasis on the identification and support in the screening pathway of those considered vulnerable or underserved in the Core20Plus5 populations. This NHS initiative is aimed at reducing healthcare inequalities in the 20% of people who experience the highest degree of socioeconomic inequality. This includes but is not exclusive to:

Non-English speakers

Those with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, neurodiversity or communication difficulties

Clients within the LGBTQI+ community including transgender and those identifying as non-binary

Homeless and rough sleepers

Refugees and asylum seekers

Eligible clients residing in forensic, secured estates

Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities

Those with mental health conditions

Those with drug or alcohol harm issues

To work collaboratively with the South East London Cancer Alliance (SELCA) to ensure that the programme of activities continues to align and remains relevant with the wider cancer system and primary care priorities

To obtain funding for and arrange external paid communication with local media providers, design with community consultation and purchase promotional merchandise for external events with the general public.
