Clinical Reporting Service Delivery
Provide independent timely, accurate and appropriate clinical reports for a range of imaging examinations, referral sources, patient ages, genders and presentations. This includes both clinical reporting and when providing verbal clinical advice.
Operate to the standards and responsibilities required of a reporting radiographer in accordance with requirements outlined in the local reporting radiographer policy.
Be an advocate for reporting radiographer services and contribute to patient care and organisational operations whilst demonstrating excellent clinical expertise and knowledge.
Be a role model and ensure high standards of patient care and professionalism.
Participate in departmental clinical reporting peer review. Comply with departmental discrepancy processes as appropriate, utilise experience for professional development.
Attend relevant multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings pertinent to scope of practice.
Review acute GP referrals, advising when a patient should attend the emergency department for further care and treatment.
Adhere to prioritisation of reports in accordance with departmental targets and key performance indicators.
Review previous imaging history and electronic patient record (EPR) to aid diagnosis.
Possess the knowledge necessary to answer the clinical question and make appropriate recommendations in accordance with local policy and procedure.
Apply appropriate urgency coding for clinical reports. Contact the referring clinician or responsible team in instances of critical findings.
Act as a point of reference for referring clinicians and radiology staff. This will include suggesting a diagnosis, differential diagnosis, advice on further imaging and other relevant support.
Respond to issues with imaging quality with staff, determine if recall is necessary
Appropriate use of the departmental voice recognition (VR) technology.
Remote Reporting
Where agreed by the Head of Radiography and Lead Reporting Radiographer, the post holder may report remotely (from home).
The post holder will be provided with the necessary equipment and will adhere to the relevant Trust policies and procedures relevant to remote working including the Home Working Policy, KCH ICT VPN Acceptable Use Policy and KCH Information Systems Security Policy.
In addition, the post holder will be required to sign and return a Home Reporting Memorandum of Understanding provided by the Radiology department.
Clinical Imaging Service Delivery Participate in image acquisition as a senior radiographer providing expert care, supervision and training.
Operate to all standards and tasks required of staff working in the same capacity in the relevant imaging modality with knowledge of the relevant responsibilities of those roles.
Act as operator and/or practitioner as appropriate under IR(ME)R (2017) legislation, practice safely in a radiation working environment in accordance with IRR (17) legislation.
Answer queries in regards to appropriate examination justification and protocol selection explaining the reasons for a decision.
Lead services, assist with diagnostic exams and supervise staff and trainees.
Provide timely, efficient and courteous care to department standards taking account of patients clinical, physical and cultural needs.
Apply in-depth knowledge of anatomy, pathology and imaging system technology to determine appropriate acquisition techniques for individual patient presentations
Provide expertise on additional imaging where required.
Address quality issues that arise and implement improvements and training as appropriate.
Ensure documentation on Radiology Information System (RIS) and Picture Archiving Communications System (PACS) associated with each patient episode.
Ensure timely provision of images to referrers.
Education, Training and Development Achieved BSc or equivalent in Diagnostic Radiography and will maintain registration as a Diagnostic Radiographer with the Healthcare Profession Council (HCPC).
Hold recognised clinical reporting qualification/s from an accredited higher educational institution (HEI) of PgC, PgD, MSc or PhD level.
Responsible for own continued profession development (CPD) undertaking various evidenced activities.
Achievement of Advanced Practitioner and/or Consultant Radiographer accreditation is not a requirement of this role but is supported.
Provide teaching and development for a range of staff and students.
Provide supervision, training and mentorship for trainee clinical reporters.
Ensure trainee reporting radiographers are seeking and receiving the required support, endeavour to provide constructive and empathetic feedback as necessary.
Ensure knowledge sharing within the reporting team to the benefit of quality and patient safety.
Incorporate clinical experience in other clinical areas (i.e. orthopaedics and A&E) into training to improve inter-professional working.
Maintain and update skills and knowledge of evolving practice, research and legislative requirements. Embed this into local practice as appropriate.
Research and Audit Participate with department radiographer performance peer review for self and others in line with departmental policy
Undertake clinical audit and report findings as appropriate
Contribute to practice development in reaction to audit outcome.
Adhere to research standards, ethics and protocols.
Undertake research and endeavour to publish (not a requirement of this role but encouraged)
Review recent and relevant published evidence, research and legislation with a view ensure evidence based practice within the department.
People Management and Performance
- Lead, coach and manage the performance of the team in line with good people management practices. Ensuring excellence is recognised and underperformance is addressed.
- Participate in regular performance appraisal meetings and ensure each member of the team has a clear set of objectives and development plans.
- Ensure the team is compliance with all statutory, mandatory training together with any professional training requirements, ensuring they are up to date and fully compliant.
- Manage team absences including sickness in line with Trust policy ensuring the appropriate return to work meetings occur, e-roster is updated and productivity is at keep to the highest possible level.
- Identify and fill any vacancies that arise within the team in line with the Trusts recruitment policy and process.
- Identify talent and support the internal talent management process in order attract and retain and succession plan for your people.
- Review skills mix at regular intervals in order to identify any potential opportunities to maximise resource utilisation / allocation, ensuring job descriptions are kept up to date.
- Ensure overall wellbeing of the team is maintained. Continuously support in improving the morale of the team and implementing a culture of zero-tolerance for bullying and harassment.
