Job summary
To deliver a service supporting patients with inflammatory skin disease in line with best practice guidelines. This will involve working within an acute setting in a busy dermatology outpatient department.
You are expected to work alongside the medical dermatology team in providing expert advice and support to those patients with inflammatory skin conditions, and the wider community and services when required, utilising evidence based practice.
It is expected that you will provide core aspects of inflammatory dermatology management, including; patient assessment, medication monitoring, working within templates of best practice for systemic and biologic medication.
You are expected to act as a clinical resource to those patients who are on systemic or biological therapies and undertake nurse led clinics including paediatric/eczema clinics under the supervision of the medical dermatology team.
You are also be expected to support the senior nursing team engaging in service improvement, audit and implementation of evidence based practice.
It is anticipated that the successful candidate either holds or is willing to undertake, the non-medical prescriber course
Main duties of the job
- To adhere to the NMC code at all times.
- To provide clinical expertise in the care of patients receiving treatment in the department or on the ward.
- To supply and administer medicines in accordance with Trust policy and/or Patient Group Directives.
- To assess, plan, implement and evaluate the needs of patients receiving treatment in the dermatology department on an ongoing basis.
- To accurately assimilate and interpret clinical information about the patient's condition, promptly report changes and instigate action as appropriate.
- Develop and work within recognised pathways and proformas as required.
- To act as a resource to others, providing accurate information advice and support to the dermatology team, patients and relatives.
- To ensure that accurate records are maintained reflecting both changes in the patient condition and the treatment delivered.
- To ensure that patients and their relatives are updated regularly with accurate information presented in a way appropriate to their needs.
- To ensure clinical guidelines are implemented and to be actively involved in auditing practice with other members of the senior nursing team.
