King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

Senior Clinical Fellow- Breast Care

The closing date is 22 September 2025

Job summary

King's Breast Care has been established as a single clinical entity for 15 years, initially to combine surgery and oncology, but it now also includes Gynae-Endocrine, Plastic Reconstruction, Psychiatric and Psychological Liaison, Breast Screening Assessment, Day Surgery Pre-assessment, Physiotherapy, and Fatigue Management, with co-location of the Screening Assessment Unit for the NHSBSP in Southeast London. At present, we manage approximately 210 breast cancer cases per year. The department has developed and become national leaders in Day Surgery for non-reconstructive breast surgery. Our interest is increasingly extending to cover fatigue management and formal social assessments.

Currently, we are looking to expand our consultant team by one to accommodate the recent changes in junior hospital doctor support. We have two breast care nurses who provide support and counselling to women with breast problems, ranging from benign conditions to metastatic breast cancer, and they work closely with the nurses in breast screening assessment.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will participate in clinics, operating sessions, and inpatient care for breast patients at King's College Hospital and will work closely with all Consultant staff.
  • They will be involved in administrative duties such as the appropriate management of investigation results and facilitating the efficient use of theatre time.
  • The post holder will participate in and supervise case preparation and presentation at the weekly Multidisciplinary Meeting.
  • They will also take part in the Directorate's monthly audit sessions, including the preparation and presentation of clinical audit projects.
  • Participation in ongoing clinical research projects within the department will be encouraged.
  • Additionally, the post holder will attend the Directorate's monthly audit and journal club sessions, contributing to the preparation of clinical audit projects and reviewing articles from peer-reviewed journals.
  • The work intensity of all posts for doctors in training is subject to continuous review in accordance with the Junior Doctors' Contract. Regular monitoring of hours is a key feature at this Trust.
