Job summary

This is a fixed-term post for 12 months, aligned with current service needs and evolving operational priorities. It offers an excellent opportunity to provide leadership continuity during a period of departmental planning and review.

We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced individual to take on the role of Lead Superintendent Radiographer for the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) and South Sites, within the Radiology Care Group at King's College Hospital.

The post holder will provide senior leadership and operational management across radiology services, working closely with the Radiology Triumvirate, Modality and Site Superintendents, and Clinical Leads. They will oversee radiography staff to ensure high-quality, responsive, and innovative services that meet clinical and performance standards. As a member of the Radiology Management Team, they will contribute to the department's strategic direction and lead on areas such as workforce planning, service delivery, business development, incident investigations, and Trust-level projects.

We welcome flexible working applications. However, the role requires on-site presence at least 80% of the time to ensure visible leadership and direct staff support.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for Radiology services across PRUH and South Sites.
  • Work collaboratively with the Radiology Triumvirate, Modality and Site Superintendents, Clinical Leads, and the wider management team.
  • Bring extensive clinical experience in at least two modalities to support safe, high-quality care and strong clinical governance.
  • Oversee service delivery, workforce planning, and operational policies in line with Trust and national standards.
  • Lead service improvement initiatives, including 7-day working and workforce development.
  • Manage delegated budgets and support financial planning, including business cases and capital bids.
  • Monitor performance against KPIs and national targets, driving service improvement.
  • Lead investigations into incidents and complaints, ensuring learning is shared and embedded.
  • Oversee audits, compliance processes, and national accreditation requirements.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and professional development.
  • Support staff training, mentorship, appraisals, and engagement with professional networks.
