IOUK Fellow – Interventional Oncology

Job summary

Kings College Hospital London and University Hospital Southampton are excited to announce we are hosting the prestigious Interventional Oncology UK (IOUK) Fellowship for 2024/25; funded with industry partners and rotating between our two trusts.

This is a 1 year post-CCT Fellowship in Interventional Oncology.

The successful candidate will spend the first 6 months of the Fellowship under the mentorship of Dr. Stephen Gregory at Kings College Hospital London followed by the second 6 months under the mentorship of Dr. Sachin Modi at University Hospital Southampton.

Being shared between KCH and UHS the IOUK Fellowship will offer almost unparalleled learning opportunities to the successful candidate.

The post is 0.8FTE.

There will be no compulsory on-call commitment. On-call service with appropriate remuneration could be arranged locally at the discretion of the local institution.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will develop specialist skills in the following procedures:

  • Y90 SIRT
  • TACE
  • MWA Liver Lesions
  • IRE Liver Lesions
  • Biliary Intervention
  • Chemosaturation
  • Portal vein / Hepatic vein embolization.
  • Basic IO skills eg. Biopsy, Drainage and Line/Port insertions
  • Major Trauma
  • TIPSS/BRTO
  • Paediatric HPB IR
  • Emergency Angiography/Haemorrhage Control
  • Cryoablation

There are ample opportunities to learn and perform ablation with 2 full day GA ablation lists encompassing MWA, IRE and Cryoablation for liver, lung, kidney, adrenal, bone and soft tissues tumours.

At both sites, as well as Interventional Oncology, there will be plentiful opportunity in Portal Hypertension management (TIPSS/BRTO), Portal/Hepatic vein embolisation eVLD, Uterine Fibroid Embolisation, Prostate Embolisation, Major Trauma and Haemorrhage control.

There will also be sessions to maintain basic IO and IR skills in preparation for a UK Consultant Job in Interventional Radiology including vascular IR if required/desired.

The successful candidate will have opportunity to prepare and deliver regular Tertiary-level Multidisciplinary Team Oncology Meetings in HPB, Renal, Adrenal, HCC and Prostate.

The IOUK Fellow will be expected to produce a piece of research (potentially conducted across both sites) to be submitted to an international meeting, the research will also need to be presented at IOUK. One international meeting and attendance at IOUK will be funded.
