Senior Dietitian - Liver and HPB

Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join a newly formed team in King's dietetic department. This role is a permanent band 6 position. The post-holder will work closely with two band 7 dietitians and a band 8a clinical lead dietitian to provide a specialist service to our liver and HPB patients both on the ward and as outpatients. The cohort is varied, providing an excellent opportunity for clinical development and experience. The post holder will be expected to actively contribute and grow relationships with our MDT and work with senior team members to develop our services, protocols and pathways.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work with patients such as those being optimised for liver transplantation, navigating liver and HPB cancer diagnoses, requiring nutrition support through pancreatitis or hepatitis, or rehabilitating after surgical interventions.

This role also provides the opportunity to spend one day per week within the critical care setting.

  • Degree in Nutrition & Dietetics (BSc/MSc/PgDip)
  • HCPC registration

Desirable

  • Membership of appropriate professional development group (e.g. BDA oncology, gastroenterology or PENG groups)

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience of working on an acute ward
  • Experience of complex enteral tube feeding
  • Experience in covering outpatient clinics
  • Experience of nutritional care planning for patients with liver and/or HPB disease
  • Understanding of interpretation of anthropometrical measurements in this patient group
  • Knowledge of dietetics within the NHS

Desirable

  • Experience in the management and usage of pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy (PERT)
  • Experience of nutritional support in critical care
  • Previous involvement in audit, research or development

Skills and Competencies

Essential

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with people from a variety of backgrounds
  • Ability to prioritise a busy caseload
  • Ability to actively contribute and work well as a team
