Job summary
The post would be suitable for any trainee who has successfully completed a 2-year Foundation School programme or has achieved equivalent competencies. Previous relevant medical experience would be desirable but not essential. The post comprises care of cardiology patients in a busy tertiary centre with general ward duties and participation in the eight person full shift rota with out of hours commitments.
For appropriately qualified individuals there will be the opportunity to gain additional practical cardiology experience. We consider good postgraduate education and training with appropriate educational supervision to be essential components of these posts. Within the Trust there is a comprehensive postgraduate teaching programme with protected MRCP teaching time and access to the excellent medical school library facilities (Guy's, King's and St Thomas School of Medicine).

Main duties of the job
The department provides a full range of adult cardiac services to a number of districts within the South Thames Region. The work of the Unit includes non-invasive and invasive cardiac investigations and treatment; acute coronary care; acute primary angioplasty for MI;interventional cardiology procedures including percutaneous coronary intervention,3 valvuloplasty, electrophysiological investigations andablation therapy, defibrillator implants and permanentpacing; a heart failure clinic; an acute chest pain clinic; andcardiac rehabilitation. The cardiac rehabilitation departmentholds several quality awards including a Charter Mark. There are strong links at King's with other associated tertiary specialties including Renal,Neurosciences, Liver and Thoracic Medicine Departments, as well as the Vascular Surgeons.The department was a pilot site for the introduction of an electronic patient record system, direct booked admissions and direct booked dates for diagnostics. All of these are now fully implemented within the speciality.
