Job summary
The Junior Clinical Fellow posts include clinical and research opportunities, providing 3/4 days a week of day cover, 3/ 4 nights a week of night cover, day and night cover at weekends and bank holidays for HPB unit on a rotational basis.
Main duties of the job
o The clinical component of the posts is to provide cover for the HPB inpatients. This is provided on a rotational basis providing 24 hour cover 7 days a week.

o The post holder has an important responsibility for and contribution to make to infection control and must be familiar with the infection control and hygiene requirements of this role. These requirements are set out in the National Code of Practice on Infection Control and in local policies and procedures which will be made clear during your induction and subsequent refresher training. These standards must be strictly complied with at all times.
o The post holder has a general duty of care for their own health, safety and well being and that of work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital, in addition to any specific risk management or clinical governance accountabilities associated with this post.
o To observe the rules, policies, procedures and standards of King's College Hospital NHS Trust together with all relevant statutory and professional obligations.
o All employees must hold an 'nhs.net' email account which will be the Trust's formal route for email communication. You are therefore required to check this regularly and to deal with such communication promptly.
About us
The Liver service is probably the largest comprehensive clinical liver programme in the world. It provides an integrated investigation and treatment service for all types of acute and chronic liver diseases as well as research into pathogenesis and future patient management. Routine and emergency cases are accepted from District HA and Supra-regional contracts as appropriate to the core services of liver transplantation, hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery, liver intensive care and general hepatology. There is also close co-operation with the Paediatric Liver Services.
The adult liver service comprises a multi-disciplinary service providing optimal care for patients with liver and hepatobiliary disease and those pre and post transplantation. The services comprise outpatient and ambulatory care facilities, ward based care, endoscopy services, theatre services, specialist liver laboratories, liver intensive care facilities and research laboratories.
Facilities within the Institute of Liver Studies comprise: UV and optical microscopes, ELISA readers, ELISPOT reader, PCR machines, flow cytometer, ultracentrifuge, beta and gamma counter, flow cabinets and all the instrumentation needed for the performance of liver directed cellular and humoral autoimmune testing.

Projects may be purely clinically based or may have a laboratory component within the newly refurbished laboratories of the Institute of Liver Studies. The positions are for one year initially, but it may be possible to extend a contract depending on satisfactory progress and mutual agreement. There are opportunities for MD or MS.
