Job summary

The Medical Equipment Management Service (MEMS) are seeking a Clinical Scientist to join our Clinical Engineering section.

Based in Denmark Hill, London, you will work alongside a team of Engineers and Scientists to provide comprehensive technical support for the management and governance of medical devices across the Trust. You will have the opportunity to work in all aspects of clinical engineering across the equipment lifecycle, with a strong focus on coordinating the planned replacement of medical equipment. You will work with clinical users to develop technical specifications of equipment to meet clinical needs and support equipment trials and evaluations. You will lead the deployment of new equipment into clinical areas and establish suitable maintenance/support packages.

Experience of working in the area of medical device management is essential, specifically with experience of running equipment replacement projects in a healthcare setting. You will be an excellent communicator with the ability to manage a complex workload which spans across multiple stakeholders from many different disciplines within healthcare.

Main duties of the job

It comprises four specific groups: Electronics and Mechanical Workshop, Medical Equipment Training, Equipment Library and Clinical Engineering. The latter group is principally responsible for medical device management across the organisation, including planning the replacement of medical equipment, technical support for patient safety, device connectivity, research and innovation, asset register management and the management of external maintenance contracts.

The post is based within the Clinical Engineering section. The post holder will work across all aspects of Clinical Engineering including device safety and inventory management. The primary focus of this role is on the planned replacement of medical equipment across the organisation. The post holder will work with Finance and Procurement colleagues to feed into fiscal planning and contribute to procurement strategies. There will be a strong emphasis on engagement with clinical colleagues to understand the clinical application, develop comprehensive specifications and support the adoption of the latest technology to meet the clinical need. The post holder will initiate and manage equipment trials and technical evaluations, feeding into the broader process of supplier/product selection and deployment of the chosen solution.

Knowledge and Experience
