Job summary

The post holder will work as part of the team that is responsible for the education (clinical and academic) of student dental therapist/hygienists within the School of Dental Therapy and Hygiene (DTH) to meet the General Dental Council learning outcomes to become registrants (approx. 30 per year). The post holder will be supporting the clinical supervision of 6,000 per annum patient database across various sites and disciplines whilst maintaining the Trust's standards of quality in service delivery. This is in conjunction with meeting the standards and requirements of various stakeholders such as the GDC Education quality assurance team and Kings College London

Main duties of the job

o Provide high quality dental treatment to patients in King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

o Supervise student therapist/hygienists' clinical activity across all campuses and outreach placements.

o Work with consultant teams in the Dental Hospital to co-ordinate and deliver multi-disciplinary care.

o Offer specialist knowledge that benefits patients, students and staff.

o First line contact for dealing with informal patient or student complaints.

o Contribute to academic and clinical programmes delivered by KCL.

o Prepare and deliver lectures/tutorials to student dental therapists and hygienists.

o Deliver specialised information within the scope of the Dental Therapist/Hygiene profession.

o Partake in all aspects of academic, practical and clinical assessment processes for the programmes for each discipline.

o Maintain records of student activity.

o Demonstrate and assess operative techniques during the pre-clinical courses for dental therapy/hygiene students.

o Offer pastoral support to all students, also supporting students under remedial measures (individualised support plans).

o Raise Student Fitness to Practice and Professionalism concerns and report to appropriate staff member.

o Support the Senior Dental Nurse in specialised stock control.

o Collaborate by working with the Dental Team Education Centre in educational delivery in under/post graduate training.

Clinical Responsibilities:

Act autonomously in best interests of patient and students.

Offer specialist knowledge that benefits patients, students and staff.

Maintain up to date knowledge and skills on clinical techniques and their application to patient dental care. Provide clinical advice to staff on dental matters, as appropriate.

Partake in Clinical Audit, Clinical Governance within the KCH quality assurance measures and processes.

  • Diploma or BSc Dental Therapy and Hygiene
  • Full registration with the GDC
  • Registered Dental Therapist
  • Experience of working within the Primary Dental Care and/or Community Dental Service and/or Hospital settings
  • Significant clinical experience
