Senior Staff Nurse - Apheresis Unit
This job is now closed
Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen and we are seeking an experienced nurse to join our friendly Apheresis team.
The Apheresis Unit is highly specialised in treatment of sickle cell. Patients with this condition can become acutely unwell and a therapeutic Apheresis of red blood cells (exchange blood transfusion) is the only available emergency treatment. Other sickle cell patients may be on a regular red cell apheresis programme for many years. For many of them, having access to this treatment has been a life-changing opportunity.
Sickle cell disease is at the dawn of a new era of treatment options including stem cell transplantation and gene therapy. King's College Hospital is the leading centre in London for HSCT in sickle cell and the innovative programme seamlessly ties in with the other activities in the apheresis unit, including peripheral blood stem cell collections, donor lymphocyte collections, therapeutic plasma exchanges and ATMP/ATIMP starting material collection. The unit performs procedures on patients, sibling and unrelated donors. The therapeutic procedure service is provided to many departments within King's College Hospital.
