Main duties of the job
- Participation in outpatient clinics
- Participation in MDMs
- Lead ward daily ward rounds
- Communicate with and advise external referrals 6 Surgery outcome/ theatre exposure
- Pancreatic resection (open and laparoscopic)
- Liver resection (open and laparoscopic)
- Laparoscopic/ open cholecystectomy
- Surgery for benign HPB conditions
- Bariatric surgery and Surgery for Benign UGI conditions
- Elective and Emergency General surgery Academic outcome
- The post holder will be expected to conduct clinical research under the direction of Prof Ameet Patel. The goal will be to present papers at meetings such as the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), and the World Congress of Endoscopic Surgery. Subsequent manuscripts that will be published in peer reviewed journals are expected. Attendance at a minimum of one major meeting per year is mandatory, but the fellow may present his or her work at as many meetings as abstracts are accepted. Management/ administration

Kings provides a comprehensive medical and surgical bariatric service for adults in line with NICE guidelines. Kings is a preferred provider for bariatric surgery. The medical and surgical services work closely together to provide best quality of care for patients. Surgically the full range of procedures including gastric banding, gastric bypass, duodenal switch, sleeve gastrectomy and complex revision surgery are offered laparoscopically.
The Bariatric service is part of the Bariatric/Upper GI/HPB firm and consists of the medical staff noted above as well as dieticians, specialist nurses and specialist physicians. There are dedicated bariatric clinics and a joint specialist MDT with GSTT and Bromley. Kings performs around 600 Bariatric operations each year. Within the Upper GI firm, Hepatopancreaticobilary surgery is performed as part of the Institute of Liver Studies.
The Liver service is probably the largest comprehensive clinical liver programme in the world. It provides an integrated investigation and treatment service for all types of acute and chronic liver diseases as well as research into pathogenesis and future patient management. Routine and emergency cases are accepted from District HA and Supra-regional contracts as appropriate to the core services of liver transplantation, hepato[1]pancreato-biliary surgery, liver intensive care and general hepatology.
There is also close co-operation with the Paediatric Liver Services. There is a weekly HPB MDM, Clinic and operating list. The HPB service currently performs around 600 major resections each year.
