Job summary

This post proves an exciting opportunity to work with children in Kings College Hospital Paediatric Cystic Fibrosis service. To further develop your clinical and management skills with the support of a large MDT.

You will provided with mentorship and support from the 8a, and you will supervise and manage a B6 and B5 Physiotherapist. Within this role you will have the opportunity to be involved in teaching, service delivery innovation, clinical audit and research.

Main duties of the job

This post holder provides physiotherapy to babies and children with Cystic Fibrosis (CF), non CF bronchiectasis and a variety of other respiratory conditions in the respiratory clinics. This patient group attends Kings from the South East England, as outpatients and inpatients, and there may be home/ nursery/school visits to the local children.

The post is 0.6 WTE working Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays there is some flexibility to the working hours and may include one Monday a month. It additionally has a pro-rata weekend working rota in Paediatrics.

This may occasionally include some work at outreach clinics in other hospitals or at the childs home, nursery or school.
  • To work closely with the Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) and larger CF team of AHPs and Doctors in the CF service. And to work with the Bronchiectasis service and respiratory service MDT.
  • To be involved in the process of instigating airway clearance, provision, teaching and management of any specialist respiratory equipment. The physiotherapists at Kings for example provide and manage the nebuliser service to the CF children. Therefore the role is to issue such equipment with due regard to safety of the equipment, and in line with legal, national and local guidelines.T
  • To be responsible for the efficient, effective and safe management of all patients referred to the service.
  • To receive referrals, undertake full assessment and independently plan individual, specialised, evidence-based, treatment programs for patients appropriately depending on the physiotherapists diagnosis, using clinical reasoning and a variety of highly specialist skills such as use of respiratory and ventilatory adjuncts, advanced airway clearance techniques and acute rehabilitation
