Job summary
We are seeking to appoint 2 part-time fixed-term Psychosexual Therapists in the Psychosexual Service at Kings College Hospital.
The service is based in the Department of Sexual Health and HIV at King's College Hospital, London. We are a busy service that sees couples and individuals with sexual difficulties, whether they are caused by physical, psychological or relationship problems. The service is referred over 500 patients every year by GPs, our sexual health service and by other hospital departments.
Main duties of the job
A key aspect of the role will be the assessment and provision of ongoing psychosexual therapy to the individual or couple. Clients present with range of issues including, but not limited to, problems with sex and intimacy, adjustment reactions to an HIV diagnosis, sexual assault, erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, loss of libido, orgasmic dysfunction, vaginismus and vulvodynia. The therapist is required to manage a caseload of clients, to refer on to other specialist disciplines as required and to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

ROLE SPECIFICATION: MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- To conduct assessment sessions and decide on an appropriate contract of psychosexual therapy or to refer on to other disciplines or specialist services.
- To undertake ongoing, but time limited, psychosexual counselling sessions
- To undertake psychological interventions to address issues relating to sex and intimacy.
- To undertake psychological interventions to support people living with HIV or affected by STIs.
- To seek medical advice or refer clients for medical assessment when necessary.
- To manage a specialist case load by providing weekly or fortnightly psychosexual therapy to clients.
- To work with both individual and couples.
- To provide an environment that is sensitive, confidential and non-judgemental.
- To work with interpreters when necessary.
- To attend monthly supervision sessions and monthly psychosexual team meetings
- To be a member of COSRT (College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists), UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy) or other relevant professional organisation and to work within their Code of Ethics.

ORGANISATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

TRAINING, EDUCATION AND RESEARCH
- Maintain a learning environment and have an active teaching role.
- Facilitate training for all members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Support training, where necessary, of the wider Sexual Health and HIV team within the department
- To participate in or carry out research and audit projects as appropriate.
- Participate in peer group, medical and other health professionals teaching
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
- To record appointments and clinical records on electronic medical records.
- To write up and maintain client records following psychosexual therapy sessions in a timely and confidential manner.
- To inform external referrers of the progress and outcome of the psychosexual therapy.
- To provide accurate client summaries and audit data on client work when required.
- To report accidents, untoward occurrences and complaints in line with trust policies
- Identify opportunities to improve the service, and to discuss them with the Medical Lead and take them forward as professional projects.
- To demonstrate knowledge of Clinical Governance and have an active role in clinical effectiveness and audit programmes in order to develop and improve services.
