Job summary

    • To create and maintain a safe therapeutic clinical environment for all patients who receive intravascular access services.

    • To support and work in conjunction with Vascular Access Team in the delivery of outpatient and ambulatory vascular access services, Cross Site.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. CLINICAL PRACTICE

  • Demonstrate a sound knowledge of infection control standards and promote these within the Trust adhering to the IPC Policy at all times.
  • To establish effective communication with all disciplines, patients, and relatives.
  • In conjunction with other specialist clinical staff, to undertake monitoring and evaluation of standards of care of patients.
  • To participate in an audit programme of line care linked with the line practitioner team at Guys and St. Thomas Hospital to feed into the clinical governance system, under the guidance of the Lead Vascular Access CNS.
  • To assist in the delivery of a seamless service through Multidisciplinary Team processes and communication.

  • To undertake such duties as may be required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibilities of the grade and the needs of the service.

  1. EDUCATION
    • To perform other administrative tasks related to intravascular training as needed.
    • In partnership with other members of the Vascular Access Team and based on analysis of the relevant Saving Lives High Impact Interventions, determine educational needs to support the Vascular Access Service.
    • In partnership with members of the Infection Prevention and Control team, to use the root cause analysis of bacteraemia to identify areas of poor practice and training needs with respect to intravascular lines.
  2. PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
    • To practice in accordance with the appropriate Trust and statutory guidelines.
    • To take responsibility for own professional development and clinical update in conjunction with the Teams performance appraisal initiative.
