Job summary
Applications are invited for a full time, substantive Specialty Doctor post in Oral Surgery at Kings College Dental Hospital.
To apply, you must be fully registered with the GDC. We are seeking to appoint to the Specialty Doctor grade, however for the right candidate we may be able to support a colleague at an early stage in their career with limited previous involvement with Oral Surgery.
Main duties of the job
The postholder's remit is to work within the multi-disciplinary team providing and developing care for patients referred for oral surgery services. In addition, you will be required to play an active role in the general workload of the department, whilst supporting the teaching and training of junior staff.
It is envisaged that the appointee will contribute to the development and delivery of all aspects of the departmental services depending upon their interests and experience.

Job responsibilities
- Together with the other clinical staff, to provide specialist secondary and tertiary Oral Surgery services for patients referred to the Oral Surgery department. This includes all aspects of treatment and relevant management duties for the effective functioning of the department.
- Responsible for the cover of periods of annual leave and short-term sickness of colleagues.
- Provide clinical supervision of junior medical staff as a shared responsibility with other consultant colleagues.
- Responsible for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to CPD and clinical governance initiatives.
- Responsible for outpatient clinic commitments in peripheral hospitals as agreed with the Divisional management team.
- Contribute to departmental research interests in accordance with the Trusts R&D framework.
- Contribute to the audit programmes, Morbidity and Mortality, clinical governance programs and learning from Deaths.
- Take an active role in the formulation, implementation and monitoring of the departments/ Divisions Business Plan. This may include assisting with discussions regarding service plans and developments with internal and external agencies.
- Conduct all activities within the contracted level of service and operating plan for service(s).

Training, Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- oFull registration with the United Kingdom Dental Council (GDC)
- oA minimum of 4 years post qualification experience
- oFamiliarity with the planning and management of patients' surgical requirements using local and general anaesthesia and appropriate sedation techniques.
- oTraining and experience in the use of Sedation as part of Oral Surgery clinical practice.
- oEvidence of continued training and experience in the management of medically compromised patients
- oEvidence of commitment to continuing professional development and training
- oKnowledge and experience of service delivery and adherence to national performance targets
- oA willingness to accept responsibility and provide leadership for more junior colleagues
- oEffective participation in clinical audit and clinical governance
