Job summary
We are seeking a full time enthusiastic and conscientious Specialty Dentist in Paediatric Dentistry to join the team at King's Dental Hospital, King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
The successful candidates should have excellent team-working qualities and will be expected to play an active role in the development, provision and delivery of oral health care to a wide range of patients who require paediatric dentistry in the hospital setting. Together with departmental colleagues you will be expected to forge links with other departments within the Trust and with external agencies to develop appropriate services for patients with complex needs; to support the development of Paediatric Dentistry within the agreed range of services and to support more junior staff working in the specialty
Main duties of the job
The 10 PAs will comprise 9 PA to provide dental treatment, 1 PA's for new patient assessment.
The duties will be to provide Paediatric Dentistry expertise:
- To assess and treatment plan patients referred by general dental practitioners, the community dental services and internal tertiary referrals.
- To provide specialist treatment for those children requiring specialist dental care.
- To provide dental treatment when appropriate under sedation
The Dental Institute has a multi-disciplinary technical laboratory and a comprehensive range of on site diagnostic radiology services.
Additional responsibilities will be to cover colleagues' periods of annual leave and short-term sickness as necessary and to undertake other appropriate clinical duties which may from time to time be requested by the Head of Service
The specialty doctor will work under the guidance of Ms Meera Ahluwalia, Consultant and Clinic Lead for Paediatric Dentistry. The job plan for this post will be agreed with the Clinical Director of the Dental Division of King's College Hospital Trust.

- To participate in planning on future strategic direction for Paediatric Dentistry services in liaison with the Lead Consultant.
- Undertake appropriate administrative duties as agreed with the Lead Consultant.
- Work with the Lead Consultant and Service Managers in promoting the development and improvement of services provided by the department.
- Prepared to deputise for the clinical/administrative role of the team during periods of staff absence.
- Contribution to the updating of directives and other protocols and guidelines for the department.

The department has a strong commitment to staff training and development. We operate a staff appraisal system, where departmental and personal training objectives are developed.
