This is a band7-8a preceptorship post and would be suitable for a newly qualified psychologist looking to consolidate their training, expand their skills and gain varied and diverse post-qualification experience.

The post is based within the Staff Psychology Service at Kings and the successful candidate will work alongside a team of psychologists to provide a range of support to the workforce. Duties will include individual assessment and therapy, facilitation of team-based interventions, consultation and development of the workforce.

  • Development of supervision skills via supervisor training and experience.
  • Development of therapy skills through CPD and experience.
  • Readiness to reduce personal supervision.
  • Independently supervising others.

The team is based within the Occupational Health directorate and benefits from close contact and proximity with the Occupational Health Department, which is multidisciplinary in nature.

Referrals to the service are diverse and include presentations relating to anxiety, depression, PTSD and eating disorders. Individual work will include psychological screening, specialist assessment, treatment, and monitoring of outcomes.

The postholder will work autonomously within professional guidelines and governance frameworks and follow standards around monitoring, evaluation and development of the service. The successful candidate will have an interest in Occupational Health, and ideally possess skills in assessing and treating a broad range of common adult mental health presentations, including working with traumatic stress. The post-holder will ideally have experience of staff support work and of adult clinical health psychology.

The post is based at Jennie Lee House in Denmark Hill, but travel to other sites such as the Princess Royal University Hospital in Bromley will also be necessary.

The service offers a range of Team-based interventions. Critical Incident Staff Support Sessions following adverse incidents, reflective practice sessions, consultation and teaching and training, as well as bespoke sessions where appropriate.

The team leads on Schwartz Rounds in the Trust and has developed an active community of practice around Schwartz Rounds with a number of facilitators and a network of key individuals across the trust to inform and shape the themes for the rounds.

There will be scope for the successful candidate to take a lead on one or two initiatives to develop and expand as part of their portfolio as opportunities to progress their leadership and consultation skills.

The role will include opportunities to develop supervision skills, initially through co-supervising as a band 7 and then independently supervising with progression to 8a. This will include assistant and trainee clinical psychologists and the candidate will be expected to complete the relevant supervisor training.

The service is very active with CPD and there will be opportunities to complete training in additional therapy skills such as EMDR. The team is research active too and will support staff to present the work of the team at conferences and to submit articles for publication.

The Staff Psychology Service is part of a wider network of departments/teams that contribute to all aspects of staff wellbeing such as the Learning and Organisational Development department and the Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity team. The successful candidate will form working relationships with a range of colleagues and professionals from across the hospital to help embed and develop the work of the team.

Within Kings, you will also be joining a growing group of psychology and psychotherapy professionals within the Adult Clinical Health Psychology department who are dedicated and supportive, meet regularly and collaborate on shared initiatives.
