Job summary

King's has published its strategy for 2021-26. The Transformation team has a critical role in delivering productivity and efficiency improvements throughout the organisation in line with the new strategy formed around providing the best, sustainable, patient centred care. The King's transformation agenda aligns to the needs of the Trust through:

  1. Specific projects and programmes of work, many of which involve service redesign, cost improvement, use of benchmarking, GIRFT, digital and recovery plans
  2. The implementation of continuous improvement methodology so that the team can help the organisation to deliver its BOLD strategy (Brilliant People, Outstanding Care, Leaders in Research Innovation & Education, Diversity Equality & Inclusion at the heart of everything we do), and
  3. Providing a shoulder to shoulder approach alongside operational, clinical, nursing, finance, workforce and network colleagues in order to embed sustainable change.

This advertisement is for four Senior Transformation Delivery Leads, including one to lead the Programme Management Office for major strategic projects, and three Senior Transformation Delivery Leads to lead each of it's cross-site productivity programmes for:

Main duties of the job

Senior Transformation Delivery Leads are key senior posts supporting the Executive and Deputy/Director of Transformation in the development and delivery of the Trust's transformation agenda.

Senior Transformation Delivery Leads are responsible for the management and leadership of a Transformation programme team. The post will be pivotal in shaping and delivering a wide range of transformation projects and in driving productivity and value for money within the Trust. The post holder will take the lead on one or more Transformation programmes, assist senior managers in the identification of productivity/performance opportunity, design and implement rapid improvement workshops.

A Senior Transformation Delivery Lead is responsible for programme planning, identification of opportunities and savings, rapid improvement in identified areas and delivery of benefits. The post holder will be responsible for the full programme/project life cycle including the effective scoping, planning, delivery and benefits realisation of projects to timescale, budget and quality expectations.

Senior Transformation Delivery Leads support the Deputy/Director of Transformation with the overall management and governance of the rapid improvement element of the transformation agenda and will ensure that reporting of programme progress against milestones and targets is completed to schedule.

Senior Transformation Delivery Leads are accountable to the Deputy/Director of Transformation.

  1. Programme Management
  • Work with the wider Transformation team and Senior Management to understand the productivity and opportunity analysis for the Trust.
  • Responsible for the development, management and operational aspects of the Transformation agenda for the Trust. This includes responsibility for all elements including clearly mapped processes, standardised outputs, informative performance reports and meaningful KPIs.
  • Work on behalf of the Deputy/Director of Transformation to ensure alignment of the Transformation programme(s) to the overall portfolio and Kings strategic goals.
  • Support the creation and delivery of the overall transformation programme plan, including milestones, benefit realisation, approach and resource required.
  • Provide expertise on programme structuring, planning, benefits quantification and tracking on behalf of the Transformation team, ensuring that outputs and benefits are defined within the overall project scope and that programmes are delivered on time, within budget and to the required standard of quality.
  • Work with the Care Groups and its selected project leads to properly scope service productivity / waste reduction improvements and follow them through from inception to implementation.
  • Take responsibility for making judgements across of range of services and projects in a strategic and operational context. Lead and develop the redesign of pathways to deliver the Trusts transformation strategy.
  • Manage the links and interdependencies between the various projects within the programme; ensuring that risks, issues and interdependencies are visible and highlighted so that they can be managed to a successful.
  • Analyse and resolve highly complex problems to successful conclusion
  • On behalf of the Deputy / Director of Transformation help undertake project and programme reviews to ensure quality and compliance with PMO governance.
  • Ensure suitable governance is in place for programme oversight with the ability to monitor, steer and aid programme delivery.
  • At any point in time, have a detailed view of the key Programme milestones for the next 12 months, including associated dependencies and risks.
  • Develop policy required to support service changes during the Transformation process.
  • Data driven analysis to inform programme creation and delivery monitoring.
  • Plan the closure and decommissioning of projects in a controlled way including the capture of lessons learned throughout the project lifecycle and ensure any key lessons are shared with the wider team and the improvement community.
  1. Communication and Leadership

The Senior Improvement Lead is managerially responsible to the Deputy Director of Transformation but will be required to work closely with a range of people in the organisation. As such the post holder is required to have strong interpersonal skills to work across organisational boundaries. S/he will need to establish and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders and partners, including:

  • Support the Executive and Programme Directors for Transformation and the Programme team in providing professional trust wide advice on priorities for improvement and how these are implemented, ensuring strong clinical engagement and value for money.
  • Carry out analysis, in partnership with Informatics and Finance and ensure this is presented in a way that will assist teams to see where change is required.
  • Ensure milestones, benefits and key performance indicators are identified, documented and tracked for every rapid improvement event.
  • Work with the clinical and project leads to determine action steps for work shop leads and other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Flag and support the mitigation of risks and issues.
  1. Finance and Resources
  • Work with the Transformation team to ensure projects are appropriately resourced.

  • Responsible for monitoring a programme budget, ensuring close control of all expenditure in line with Trust policy and Standing Financial Orders, setting standards for the highest levels of financial propriety across the department.
  • Manage the recruitment process for projects, continuous improvement training and rapid improvement events, working alongside HR as appropriate, ensuring all relevant HR procedures are followed.
  • Hold accountability and sign off for all innovation projects and initiatives.
  • Constantly strive for value for money and greater efficiency in the use of the budget and ensure that they operate in recurrent financial balance year on year.

  • Ensure all project and programme financials are aligned with finance department processes and status each month in respect of phasing of financial actuals.

  • Complete process reviews for project interdependencies, service impact assessments, project approvals, change controls and quality impact assessments (QIAs).

  • Review and quality assure the content of project documentation to assure that goals and outcomes are credible.
  • Ensure that changes to programme and projects across the portfolio are properly managed and the impact of any changes impact assessed, reported and recorded.
