- To work within Division in the Urology Department at Denmark Hill site Willow Field Building to facilitate and further develop a comprehensive patient centred outpatients' service.
- Ensure that all activities in the area are carried out within King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust policy guidelines.
- Promote the objectives of the Trust's Vision and Philosophy for Nursing.
- Ensure that all duties are carried out in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
- Assist in the implementation of national improvement initiatives
Main duties of the job
Kings College NHS Trust Urology department is looking for a Band 5 nurse to join the team. This is mainly based at Urology Department at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
The Urology Clinic at Denmark Hill provides a comprehensive out-patient service for Urology patients and general service for the investigation and treatment of urological problems including recurrent urinary tract infections, renal stone, haematuria (blood in the urine), incontinence and erectile dysfunction.
The Urology Department at King's provides one of London's leading integrated for Urology services. These clinics are supported by direct access in Cystoscopy, TP Biopsy and Urodynamics.
Based at the Urology Clinic at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, you will have the opportunity to work with a diverse client group in an area of London.

Clinical Practice
- To work within the Urology Clinic at Denmark Hill clinic to both provide and further develop the service.
- Assist junior staff in the assessment of patients and advise when necessary.
- Maintain and interpret the significance of data with regards to the patients health status and communicate this within multi disciplinary team (MDT).
- Act as an effective role model to the nursing team in the delivery of nursing care.
- Assist and supervise junior staff to enable them to assess, plan and evaluate care for patients attending the outpatients department.
- Aware of NMC Scope of Professional Practice and ensure that individual professional developments are in line with this concept and are approved and agreed by the Trust.
- Take responsibility for the correct administration, safe custody and storage of drugs when appropriate.
- Ensure own mandatory training is up to date.
- Conform to Trust and department policies regarding reporting of sickness and the booking of annual leave.
- Maintain standard of conduct and dress to sustain public confidence in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and Trust policies.
- Set good example of role modelling and being approachable and supportive to the Matron, Sister and staff.
- With the Sister, perform regular (Personal Performance Development Reviews (PPDR) of junior staff within an acceptable time frame.
Education and Research
- To act as an effective role model, participating in the development of junior nursing staff.
- To participate in formal and informal teaching.
- To assist in developing guidelines for good practice and standards for the service.
- To demonstrate the use of evidence based practice and participate in clinical audit with the Trust.
- To participate in relevant/appropriate Trust approved research projects conducted within the department.
Management
- To liaise with all other disciplines within the Trust and at local level.
- Participate in management of change to improve standard of care and communication from the acute trust to primary care.
- To contribute to the development of nursing practice within the service.
- To maintain appropriate and accurate records.
- To actively involve service users in providing feedback of their experience of the service and suggestions for improvement.
- To follow measures to actively manage and reduce risk to patients. Ensure formal reporting and recording of adverse incidents in line with Trust policy.
- To be contributing to the smooth and effective running of the outpatient clinic, ensuring patients and their families received an efficient and patient focused service.
