The Acute specialist Medical department enjoys the reputation of being a leader in innovative care towards patients. Opportunities have arisen for nurses with a proven ability in providing excellent patient care to medical patients.
Within the wards we have dedicated specialist teams treating conditions such as Diabetes and Endocrinology, Respiratory and Cystic Fibrosis Health and Ageing, Gastroenterology, Sexual Health and HIV and Cystic Fibrosis.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the role are:
- To deliver high quality, evidence-based and patient focused clinical care.
- To work effectively as part of the immediate team and wider multi-disciplinary team (MDT).
- To uphold a duty of care and clinical governance
- To maintain own and others' knowledge of clinical excellence.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following skills and attributes:
- Able to demonstrate a kind and compassionate attitude towards patients, relatives and other team members.
- Ability to prioritise your time and duties effectively.
- Able to communicate affectively and ready to speak and raise concerns.
- Show a commitment to supporting equality in the ward for patients and colleagues.
- Enjoy working in this demanding and rapidly changing environment
- Preferably 6 months experience in an acute ward setting.

Working effectively as part of the immediate team and widermultidisciplinary team (MDT) through:
- Liaising effectively with all members of the MDT to ensure patients needs aremet.
- Exercising leadership and taking the initiative where appropriate.
- Providing support and advice to ward/unit staff (especially junior staff) onclinical and administrative issues.
- Liaising with discharge coordinator / bed manager to ensure effectiveadmission/discharge of patients.
- Keeping the ward/unit sister / charge nurse informed of significant changesand/or anticipated problems.
Upholding a duty of care and clinical governance through:
- Observing a general duty of care for the health, safety and well-being ofyourself, work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital.
- Ensuring the rules, policies, procedures and standards of Kings CollegeHospital NHS Trust Foundation together with all relevant statutory andprofessional obligations are adhered to at all times.
- Maintaining patient confidentiality, dignity and privacy at all times.
- Adhering to the Trusts policy on valuing equality and diversity and showingdue regard for each patients cultural and religious beliefs, gender, ethnicity,age and sexuality.
- Strictly adhering to the National Code of Practice on Infection Control.
