Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 2 month fixed term post in palliative medicine (2nd August - 3rd October 2023). The post holder will join the multi-professional palliative care team based at the Cicely Saunders Institute, King's College Hospital, Demark Hill, London. This is a stand-alone post and is suitable for doctors who have achieved competencies ST3 and above. King's is a busy but friendly teaching hospital and the experience gained will help the successful candidate to improve their portfolio and broaden their skill set.
Postgraduate education and training are essential components of this role. While the post is designed to support the service, the post-holder will have the same support from Educational and Clinical Supervisors as well as the Department of Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education (PGMDE). This will include support and encouragement for all aspects of your professional portfolio, including access to teaching and training in Departments and across the Trust, MRCP support and appraisal support. There is also an International Doctors Development Programme. Main duties of the job
The post-holder would be based within the Cicely Saunders Institute at Denmark Hill.
The post holder will:
- Be involved in reviewing patients from across the Trust who have been referred to the team for advice regarding palliative care management including complex symptom control, psychosocial support, advance care planning and end of life care
- Work as part of the multi-professional team
- Participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care
- To take an active part in undergraduate training
- To participate in research activities and clinical trials as required
The post holder must be fully registered with the GMC and hold a License to Practice. They should be of ST3 level and above. Experience in palliative care is desirable, but experience in other medical specialities such as geriatrics, intensive care medicine, or medicine would be considered.
This post would be ideal for somebody who has completed a Core Medical Training Programme or can demonstrate equivalent competencies who has an interest in palliative care.
