An exciting opportunity has arisen for highly motivated team players to join our well-established SMART Vascular Centre at the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, welcoming applications for a Trust Doctor ST1/2 level to join the team.

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust consists of a 600 bedded large district General Hospital, which provides its services on the Countess of Chester Health Park, and a 64 bedded Intermediate Care Service at Ellesmere Port Hospital. The Trust employs over 5,000 staff and provides a range of medical services to more than 445,000 patients per year from areas covering Western Cheshire, Ellesmere Port, Neston, and North Wales.

The hospital is situated in a beautiful location on the outskirts of the historic Roman City of Chester. We are within easy access of Manchester Airport, North Wales, and the Lake District. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in an on-call rota and must hold full registration with the GMC with a licence to practice.

The SMART Network wishes to appoint doctors who will be committed to working with the existing clinical workforce and wish to develop his/her interest in vascular and endovascular surgery as well as contributing to the ongoing development of the regional centre based at the Countess of Chester Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will join an existing team of 13 consultant vascular surgeons in the Network, six registrars and junior medical staff.

The post holder will be responsible to the appropriate consultants for admitting cases, the attendance at daily ward rounds, the arrangement of patient investigations as part of the pre and post-operative care of circa 26 vascular patients. The role will require you to liaise with the wider hospital teams and vascular clinical team to support ward based patient care and facilitate discharges. The role also requires you to participate in operative surgery; with the extent of your involvement being commensurate with your experience and ability.

There is also an expectation that the post-holder will contribute to departmental audit and research with consultant supervision.

This post is not recognised for training purposes; however, the Trust will ensure teaching to a high standard to assist the successful applicant in progressing further.
