Working Full time: 40 hours per week

This post will be one of 6 middle grade doctors in the department. The successful applicant would be expected and encouraged to develop special interests, which will fit well with the current and future needs of the department. You will be expected to become involved in all aspects of the department including teaching, audit and research and participate in the out of hour's rota.

The department delivers vascular services across the Network via a hub and spoke model. The service delivers the full complement of vascular services including aortic aneurysms, carotid territory embolic disease and peripheral vascular disease. We also deliver renal access services to support the nephrology service and offer vascular input into a multidisciplinary diabetic foot service. The programme of training for each individual doctor will be flexible depending on his/her needs and stage of training.

Main duties of the job

The Registrar will be responsible for the day-to-day care of all patients under the Vascular Surgery Consultants. Provide experienced, specialist care, as part of a multi-disciplinary team. This includes the management of complex cases, reflecting on and reviewing patient care activities ensuring quality and safety improve continuously. The role requires involvement within teaching, training, research and the development of network and local services as appropriate to skills and experience.

Registrars will "have acquired a high level of specialist knowledge and expertise and have the capacity and opportunity to work independently within agreed lines of responsibility and will also take a broader role in the organisation.

About us

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:

  • The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds
  • Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility
  • Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.

The Trust employs over 5916 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 411,000. This includes 361,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000.

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Successful completion of MRCS or equivalent at time of application
  • Full registration with the GMC at time of appointment

Desirable

  • FRCS, EBVS or equivalent
  • Prior experience in vascular surgery at registrar level
  • Experience in endovascular procedures
  • Prior experience in leadership, audit and research
  • ATLS
