We are looking for a suitably experienced, innovative and enthusiastic Nurse to take up the role of Deputy Ward Manager on our new Acute Stroke Unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital.
This is an exciting opportunity to use and further develop your leadership skills whilst making a difference to stroke patients and their families. You will play a key role in supporting the Ward Manager in delivering, safe, effective high quality care as well as guiding and inspiring the nursing team.
You will need to be used to a working in a busy clinical environment, and are someone who can remain calm but responsive to ever changing clinical demands.
This post is a full time job and you will be expected to work nights, weekends and days
Main duties of the job
As an experienced nurse you will work both clinically as a member of the Nursing Team providing clinical advice, expertise and leadership to all staff.
A significant part of this role will be working as a team leader and co-ordinate the ward on a daily basis with a good understanding of caring for Acute stroke patients, complex discharges, patient flow and exhibit problem solving and excellent communication skills.
You will also work closely with the Ward Manager in leading on the day to day operational management of care within the Ward and take the lead in ensuring that the Nursing team are suitably supported and trained to deliver high quality, patient centred care.

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:
- The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds
- Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility
- Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.
The Trust employs over 5916 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 411,000. This includes 361,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000.
