Band 6 Occupational Therapist- Paediatric Therapy

We have an exciting opportunity for a part time, permanent Band 6 to work as a Paediatric Occupational Therapist within our Paediatric Therapy Team. We appreciate that it can be difficult to gain Psediatric experience within rotational posts and so training will be provided for this area of work if the applicant does not have sufficient experience in Paediatric Therapy.

We are looking for a dynamic, motivated and enthusiastic practitioner with post graduate experience of Paediatrics. The ability to work in a team and promote a positive attitude in the workplace is essential.

This post offers an opportunity to work within our team of Paediatric Occupational Therapists. The post holder will work as a specialist occupational therapist offering specialist occupational therapy assessment and intervention to a designated caseload of children. Our service works with children aged 0-19 years, some of whom have complex physical and medical needs.

The successful applicant will demonstrate excellent communication skills, empathy, leadership skills and enjoy working alongside a highly supportive multidisciplinary team to deliver a high quality service with kindness and care.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a highly skilled enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to work within our integrated multidisciplinary team providing assessment and management of children aged 0-19 years, some of whom have complex physical and medical needs. The post holder will assess and treat a caseload of children with both developmental delay and more complex needs. The successful applicant will demonstrate excellent communication skills and empathy and enjoy working alongside a highly supportive multidisciplinary team to deliver a high quality service with kindness and care.

Main Duties Include:

  • Responsible for own caseload of patients
  • Participate in clinical pathway discussions
  • Support assistant competencies and training
  • Be involved in team engagement in service development
  • Encourage professional networking and participation/ involvement in clinical interest groups
  • Ensure the use of a goal orientated approach and lead the team in the use of outcome measures

About us

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:

  • The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds
  • Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility
  • Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.

The Trust employs over 6258 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 407,000. This includes 357,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000.

The Trust is a busy district general hospital and in 2022/2023, there were more than 503,342 patient attendances (inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic) ranging from a simple outpatient appointment to major cancer surgery. This is an increase of nearly 10,000 compared to the previous year when there were 494,387 patient attendances.
