Clinical Psychologist for Community Paediatrics

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and dynamic psychologist to take on a specialist role within our Community Paediatric Neuro-developmental Team at The Countess of Chester Hospital. The successful candidate will work 30 hours per week over 4 days.

The post holder will be required to undertake Autism assessments for primary school aged children. The Community Paediatric Team works within the multi-agency preschool and school aged Autism pathway in West Cheshire.

Main duties of the job

  • To attend, contribute and chair monthly ASD multidisciplinary team meetings and weekly triage meetings.
  • To contribute to the development of appropriate diagnostic assessment protocols for the ASD service
  • To provide a qualified specialist clinical psychology ASD assessment and diagnostic service to children, young people and their families. This includes multiagency ASD assessments, formulating a profile of the child's needs and strengths and report writing.
  • To provide specialist psychological assessments of children referred to the team based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations, developmental history and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the child's care.
  • To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of clients.
  • To make appropriate and evidence-based recommendations for children

About us

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:

  • The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds.
  • Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility.
  • Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.

The Trust employs over 6258 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 407,000. This includes 357,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000.

The Trust is a busy district general hospital and in 2022/2023, there were more than 503,342 patient attendances (inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic) ranging from a simple outpatient appointment to major cancer surgery. This is an increase of nearly 10,000 compared to the previous year when there were 494,387 patient attendances.

Essential

  • Doctoral Clinical Psychology qualification ClinPsychD
  • Eligible for Chartered Psychologist status.
  • Registration with the HPC as a Clinical Psychologist (or other relevant domain as agreed by the Director of Psychological Services)
  • Training in Autism Diagnostic Assessments
  • Post qualification and further specialist training in specified specialist intervention, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuro-psychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology, as accredited by the BPS.
  • Further specialist supervision in specific psychological approaches and or client groups supported by case presentations, group supervision and short courses. as part of an agreed personal development plan

Desirable

  • Training in Autism Diagnostic tools e.g. ADOS, ADI, 3Di training
  • Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology.
