Improving Screening Uptake Officer (Internal only)

Job summary

Are you passionate about reducing health inequalities and improving access to essential screening services? We are looking for a proactive and motivated individual to join the Cheshire Diabetic Eye Screening Programme as our Improving Screening Uptake Officer.

In this role, you will help the service understand and address the barriers that prevent people from attending their screening appointments. You will work closely with GP practices, community organisations, local authorities, and regional networks to design, deliver, and evaluate initiatives that improve access to screening.

You will also support our health promotion activity by planning and attending community events, and you will directly contact patients who have not attended screening for several years to encourage their attendance.

The post holder will be based at Alsager Health Centre with the option to work remotely for elements of the role.

Hours per week: 37.5

Main duties of the job

Key duties include:

  • Identify patient groups and geographical areas with lower screening uptake using available data and insight tools.
  • Work collaboratively with GP practices, Integrated Care Boards, community organisations, and local authorities to understand the barriers affecting attendance.
  • Develop and deliver targeted interventions to improve access, including tailored outreach activities and flexible engagement approaches.
  • Represent the programme at health promotion events, community forums, and local engagement activities.
  • Support efforts to reduce health inequalities by developing initiatives for under served groups, including people with learning disabilities, ethnic minority communities, and other high-need populations.
  • Contact patients who have not attended screening for several years to encourage re-engagement.
  • Demonstrate and report the impact of interventions to NHS England and share best practice and learning across programmes to support continuous improvement.
