Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated nurse to undertake asecondment as a Macmillan Palliative Emergency Nurse (Band 6) within East Cheshire NHS Trust, based at Macclesfield District General Hospital.

The successful post holder will work within the Emergency Department (ED) and Medical Assessment Unit (MAU), providing specialist palliative care support to patients presenting with life-limiting illness. The role focuses on delivering high-quality, patient-centred care, supporting timely assessment, symptom management, and ensuring patients are cared for in the most appropriate setting.

This is a development opportunity for an experienced nurse wishing to enhance their knowledge and skills within specialist palliative and emergency care.

Hours per week: 37.5

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

  • Deliver specialist palliative care to patients presenting in emergency settings
  • Undertake holistic assessments and develop personalised care plans
  • Act as a palliative care key worker in ED, coordinating care across acute and community services
  • Support patient flow and avoid unnecessary admissions where appropriate
  • Provides palliative care advice and support to patients, families, and staff
  • Contribute to education, training, and service development
  • Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to improve patient outcomes
