Dental Therapist & Hygienist – Oral Health Practitioner Specialist

Job summary

The post holder will provide a high standard of care and comprehensive range of specialist dental treatments and preventive advice/support within the General Dental Council scope of practice for dental therapist and hygienists - oral health practitioner specialist. Specialist clinical treatments including restorative, paediatric exodontia, periodontal and preventive procedures, according to the prescription and treatment plan, under the direction of a dentist. Maintain clinical records.

To undertake oral health instruction, information and advice to be given to specific client groups with complex needs, provide clinical supervision of dental nurses and students when giving oral health education, advice and training and undertake equipment testing when required.

Hours per week: 17.5

Main duties of the job

To provide a wide range of specialised dental & preventive procedures within the remit and full GDC scope of practice for dental therapists and hygienists, to specific client groups, under the direction of a dentist;

To take responsibility to assess and analyse a range of options in changing patient circumstances & take appropriate action within the treatment plan.

Provide dental and oral care for patients with complex needs, supporting the prescriber

Maintain contemporaneous clinical patient notes/records

Manage own workload within templated appointment times and clinics

Maintain high standard of infection control.

Communicate with patients who have complex needs & communication issues.

Maintain training and development in clinical skills, knowledge and competencies for the role.

To maintain professional standards

To maintain the Trusts values and behaviours

Assist in service audits when required

To work across clinic locations when required

To work within service specifications of the contracts - currently special care and paediatric exodontia contracts

Participate in service development and meetings.
