Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Senior Midwife to apply for the position of Labour Ward Co-ordinator within East Cheshire NHS Trust.

You will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, demonstrate sound clinical judgement, and support the team to deliver safe, high-quality intrapartum care on a shift-by-shift basis, even under pressure.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will act as shift leader on the labour ward, providing a high level of clinical expertise, leadership, and operational management across the maternity department, including obstetric theatre and community services as required. The role involves supporting medical, midwifery, and support staff to ensure the safe, effective, and efficient delivery of maternity care.

The post holder will be responsible for coordinating staff and workload across the antenatal, postnatal, and labour ward areas, leading the management of acute obstetric emergencies, and working within the Clinical Governance framework to maintain and improve standards of care.

The role forms part of the senior midwifery team responsible for the seamless 24/7 running of the maternity unit and includes participation in the on-call rota to support the provision of a continuous maternity service.
