Job summary

The post holder will contribute effectively to the provision of the spiritual welfare and distinctive religious needs of the patients, their relatives and Trust staff, which meets professional standards and best current practice, including participation in out-of-hours calls as appropriate.

To be the point of reference for religious, spiritual, death and bereavement matters in the Trust, providing highly specialist knowledge.

Hours per week: 15

x2 posts (1 post for 10 hours, 2 days per week 10.30am - 3.30pm & 1 post for 5 hours, 1 day per week 10.30am - 3.30pm)

Main duties of the job

Working within a team of four hospital chaplains, the role is autonomous and varied. Visiting patients and staff across all areas of the hospital, Chaplains are the key contacts for pastoral and spiritual care, regardless of their faith or belief system. Having a professional yet caring approach to communication is a vital part of being a chaplain.

Key duties include offering support during times of illness, injury, loss, and death, facilitating religious needs, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals. Essential skills include strong communication and listening skills, empathy, compassion, and the ability to work with diverse individuals and challenging situations.
