Job summary
The Trust is seeking to appoint a dynamic Specialty Doctor to support our Care of the Elderly service at East Cheshire NHS Trust. Innovation in the delivery of elderly care is a key requirement of this role.
The appointee will work with other colleagues to provide Care of the Elderly input at a senior level. They will support in providing timely patient review and clinical decision making to support their care, and work on reducing their length of stay as appropriate.
They will participate in the on-call rota.
The appointee will play a key role in providing a high quality, efficient, patient focused Care of the Elderly service.
The post will be based at Macclesfield District General Hospital.
Hours per week: 10 PA's
Main duties of the job
TheroleofSpecialtyDoctorincareoftheelderlywillincludethefollowing:
Supporting the medical care on the elderly care wards or in the orthogeriatric service asrequired.
Supporting the frailty team MDT in both the ED and MAU settings.
Delivering holistic geriatric assessments to improve patient care.
Attending and leading regular ward MDT meetings.
Participate in quality improvement, audit and service developments.
Assist with outpatient clinics as required.
Attend unit management and governance meetings.
Support implementation and achievement of targets set by the NHS long term plan and NHS England with regards to older people's care and frailty care.Work with colleagues to ensure effective management of inpatients, internal referrals,outpatient clinics and investigational sessions.
Work together with primary care colleagues to ensure effective management ofcommunity patients.Participate in the education and training of medical students, doctors, and professions allied to medicine including those in primary care.
About us
NHS Medical and Dental salaries are set at a national level. For new starters not already working to UK Medical and Dental terms and conditions of service will be appointed to the minimum paypoint. The starting salary paypoint can only be increased when there is evidence of relevant, completed year's experience in terms of nature, type and level of role. Essential
- Medical degree MRCP or equivalent
- Applicants must hold full GMC registration
Desirable
- Any additional postgraduate examination in care of the elderly or general medicine
- Postgraduate teaching qualification
Clinical Experience
Essential
- Be eligible for full registration with, and hold a current licence to practice from, the GMC at intended start date.
- Have evidence of achievement of foundation competences from a UKFPO affiliated Foundation Programme or equivalent any time of appointment in line with the GMC standards/Good Medical Practise
- Appropriate level of clinical knowledge
- Knowledge and application of up to date evidenced based practice
- Experience in the management of patients within the Medical Division
- Understanding of clinical risk management
