Secondment opportunity: Treating Tobacco Dependence Nurse

We are looking to recruit either a full time or x2 part time Band 6 Nurses (to work an equivalent of one full time role) to help establish the brand-new tobacco treatment service at Macclesfield District General Hospital.

This could be an ideal opportunity for an experienced Band 5 Nurse looking to gain promotion or for any experienced Nurse looking for a new challenge to help set up and embed this new service.

The role could be worked flexibly alongside other roles in the Trust (eg work part time in your current role and part time in this new role).

These post are initially fixed term up to the end of March 2025 but this could be extended subject to external funding.

Hours per week: Candidates can request between 0.4 (15) and 0.6 (22.5) WTE or full time (37.5 hours per week)

Main duties of the job

East Cheshire Trust (ECT) in partnership with Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS FT are establishing a new Tobacco Treatment Service to support patients who smoke. This role requires the post holder to work with patients and departments across Macclesfield District General Hospital to support patients to quit smoking.

Under this new service, all patients admitted to hospital will have their smoking status recorded, those who smoke and want support to quit will be referred to the Tobacco Treatment Service who will provide access to nicotine replacement therapy and agree a personalised plan to support them to quit smoking tobacco whilst in hospital and once discharged (usually by onward referral to a community based Stop Smoking service).

The post holder will respond to referrals, undertake holistic assessment and coordinate the delivery of the Nicotine Replacement Therapy, this includes supporting patient/carers, communication and working closely with acute wards. The post holder will be fundamental to ensure consistent delivery of the service and maintain communication and a joined up clinical approach across community and secondary care. As the service develops, the referral sources will be broadened.
