We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced band 6 midwife to join our team and lead the Antenatal and Newborn Screening programmes to our families at East Cheshire NHS. You will work under the direction of the Head of Midwifery to ensure the recommended National Screening Committee (NSC) screening programmes are implemented.
As the screening lead midwife you will provide holistic care to families, undertaking clinical aspects to provide expert advice and counselling to women and staff. The role requires implementation and monitoring of failsafe systems to ensure all women who consent to antenatal and/or newborn screening undergo the appropriate tests, and are referred as required.
The successful applicant will have a passion for quality of care, a dynamic approach to implementing pathways and processes, with the ability to engage staff in training and delivering a successful screening programme.
Hours per week: 22.50
Main duties of the job
- To ensure the provision of quality patient information on antenatal and newborn screening is offered to women in line with NSC recommendations and that it is available in languages relevant to individual women.
- Oversee and facilitate the provision of care pathways for women and neonates who are found to be screen positive.
- Counsel and provide expert advice to women and their partners concerning high-risk antenatal screening results, communicating highly complex information in a sensitive manner.
- Coordinate the referral of women with more complex screening issues to Tertiary Centres.
- Ensure failsafe processes are embedded and monitored within the antenatal and newborn screening programmes, including the newborn failsafe tools for NIPE and newborn bloodspot.
- Attend local, regional, national meetings related to antenatal and newborn screening.
- Quality Assurance of all antenatal and newborn screening programmes, including assisting with data collection for the Key performance indicators, undertaking audit and developing action plans, the creation and review of policies, procedures, guidelines and reports. Preparation for all National Screening Committee (NSC) quality assurance visits.
